Medgar and Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story That Awakened America by Joy Reid

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, members of the National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) will gather virtually for another inspiring session of the NFDW Book Club, featuring Medgar and Myrlie: Medgar Evers and the Love Story That Awakened America by Joy Reid. The discussion, held via Zoom, will bring together Democratic women from across the nation to reflect on the powerful legacy of Medgar and Myrlie Evers, two icons whose courage and commitment helped shape the modern civil rights movement.

Participants will explore the deeply personal and political story behind the Evers’ partnership — a love story rooted in resilience, faith, and the unyielding pursuit of justice. The conversation will also connect the lessons of the civil rights era to today’s ongoing fight for equality and democracy, reminding us that progress requires both perseverance and unity.

The event reinforces the NFDW’s mission to uplift women’s voices, promote civic education, and draw strength from the stories of those who paved the way. The NFDW Book Club continues to be a space where members engage, learn, and find inspiration in the power of stories that have shaped — and continue to shape — America’s journey toward justice.
