COMMITTEES 

The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) has recently revamped its organizational structure to strengthen communication and collaboration across all levels. Our committees play a vital role in advancing our mission by focusing on key areas such as membership, political action, education, and community outreach. This enhanced structure ensures more efficient coordination, clear channels for member involvement, and a unified approach to empowering Democratic women nationwide. Through these committees, NFDW continues to foster leadership development and advocate for policies that reflect the values of our diverse membership. Standing committees, as outlined by our bylaws, are indicated with an asterisk(*).

Committees of the President

The Following Committees are under the direction of the President of the National Federation of Democratic Women.

ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE


The Administration Committee is responsible for overseeing the internal operations and organizational efficiency of the National Federation of Democratic Women. It is composed of the Chief of Staff, who leads the committee, the Administrative Assistant providing essential support, the Correspondence Secretary managing all official communications, the Assistant Treasurer, and the Parliamentarian ensuring adherence to procedural rules. Together, they maintain smooth administrative functions and uphold governance standards.

Kristina Dixon (California) is the Chief of Staff to the President of the NFDW. R. Denise Everson (District of Columbia) is the Correspondence Secretary. Shantay Walton (Mississippi) is the Assistant Treasurer. Pamela Williams Kelly (Tennessee) is the Parliamentarian. The Chief of Staff is seeking a volunteer administrative assistant to help with some of the support scheduling, communications, and general coordination for the position of the President.

BYLAWS COMMITTEE*


The Bylaws Committee plays a crucial role in the National Federation of Democratic Women, ensuring that the organization's rules and regulations are clear, effective, and up-to-date. This committee reviews proposed amendments and makes recommendations to the Annual Convention with respect to their adoption. By fostering transparency and promoting best practices, the Bylaws Committee helps maintain the integrity and functionality of the organization, empowering members to uphold their mission and objectives effectively. Members of this committee collaborate closely to ensure that the bylaws reflect the evolving needs of the federation and its members.

CONVENTION CREDENTIALS COMMITTEE


The Credentials Committee plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and fairness of the electoral process within the National Federation of Democratic Women. This committee is responsible for verifying the eligibility of delegates, ensuring compliance with established rules and regulations, and addressing any disputes that may arise regarding delegate credentials. By upholding transparency and accountability, the Credentials Committee helps to maintain the democratic principles that are central to the organization's mission, fostering an inclusive environment for all members. It is responsible for reporting and updating the membership at the annual meeting.

CONVENTION LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE


The Convention Leadership Committee plays a vital role in ensuring the success of our events. They oversee all aspects of planning and execution, coordinating logistics, managing schedules, and facilitating communication among participants. Their dedication and attention to detail guarantee a smooth, engaging, and impactful convention experience for all attendees.

Lovie West (Mississippi) is the General Chair of this Committee. Audrey Dempsey (Nevada), Susanna French (Kentucky), and Inez James (Ohio) are Co-Chairs of this Committee.

The Convention Planning & Oversight Committee plays a crucial role in organizing and executing the Annual Convention for the National Federation of Democratic Women. This dedicated group is responsible for the meticulous planning and coordination of all aspects of the convention, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience for all attendees. From logistics and programming to outreach and engagement, the committee works collaboratively to uphold the organization's mission and values. Their efforts help to create a platform for meaningful discussions, networking opportunities, and the celebration of women's contributions to the democratic process.

CONVENTION RULES COMMITTEE


The Rules Committee plays a vital role in shaping the framework and procedures for the Annual Convention. This committee is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and recommending the rules that govern the Convention, ensuring a fair and orderly process for delegates. Its members work collaboratively to address issues such as voting procedures, and the code of conduct by delegates. By establishing clear guidelines, the committee helps to promote transparency and inclusivity, allowing for a more democratic participation in the electoral process.

COURTESY COMMITTEE


The Courtesy Committee is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating special events in the lives of board members. By acknowledging milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant occasions, the committee fosters a supportive and connected community within the organization. Their efforts help to strengthen relationships and promote a culture of appreciation among members.

HISTORY COMMITTEE*


The History Committee of the National Federation of Democratic Women is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of women in the Democratic Party. Through research, and archival work, the committee aims to highlight the contributions of women in the Federation. By documenting and sharing stories of past achievements, the committee seeks to inspire future generations and ensure that the voices of women remain at the forefront of the Democratic narrative. It shall receive NFDW documents for deposit in the Library of Congress every two years. Members were elected by Region at the 2025 Annual Convention.

Pat Farley (Florida) is the Chair of this committee. Lovie West (Mississippi) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Debra Dickey (Connecticut), and Cindy Jenks (Missouri). We are still seeking one member each from the Southern and Western Regions.

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE*


The Legislative Committee of the National Federation of Democratic Women is dedicated to promoting the interests and voices of women in the legislative process. This committee actively monitors and analyzes proposed legislation at local, state, and national levels, ensuring that the unique perspectives and needs of women are represented. By fostering a deeper understanding of the legislative landscape, the committee empowers members to engage effectively and advocate for progressive change within their communities. It shall work with the DNC on pending and proposed legislation, disseminate information to members, and give consideration to the Resolutions passed.

Jennifer Riley Collins (Mississippi) is the Chair of this committee. Lovie West (Mississippi) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Gaby Fraser (District of Columbia), Lisa Gore (District of Columbia), Chandra Wright (Georgia), Sabrina Newby (Georgia), and Patricia Fuqua Lovett (Georgia).

PLATFORM COMMITTEE


The Platform Committee is responsible for ensuring that our organization's priorities align with those of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). This committee carefully reviews and shapes our platform to reflect the shared values and goals of the broader Democratic Party, thereby maintaining consistency and unity in our policy positions.

STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE


The Strategic Planning Committee plays a crucial role in guiding the long-term vision and goals of the National Federation of Democratic Women. By analyzing current trends, assessing organizational strengths and challenges, and setting measurable objectives, the committee ensures that NFDW remains focused and effective in advancing its mission. Their work supports sustainable growth, effective resource allocation, and alignment with the core values of the organization.

Barbara Phillips (Mississippi) is the Chair of this committee. Lovie West (Mississippi) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Dr. Corinne Anderson (Mississippi), Celeste Garcia (District of Columbia), and Hazel Thomas (District of Columbia).

AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS COMMITTEE


The Awards and Scholarships Committee is dedicated to recognizing and empowering women leaders within the Democratic Party. This committee submissions for the awards and chooses a winner for each award. The awards are the NFDW Member of the Year Award, NFDW Humanitarian Award, and Outstanding Elected Democratic Woman holding Public Office. The Scholarships are the Rilla Moran Woods Internship, and Agnes Bird Internship. These awards and scholarships are presented at the Annual Convention. Through its initiatives, the committee not only honors achievements but also promotes educational and professional growth among women committed to advancing democratic ideals.

Pat Sirois (Connecticut) is the Chair of this committee. Christine Pelosi (California) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Jennifer Franklin (Illinois), Cindy Jenks (Missouri), Peggy Monroe (Tennessee) and Danielle Neetz (Florida).

POLITICAL DIRECTORS COMMITTEE


The Political Directors Committee serves as a vital coordinating body within our organization, bringing together politically active women from across the nation. Its mission is to develop strategic political initiatives, facilitate communication among our members about staying engaged in the political process, and enhance the organization’s influence in electoral and legislative processes. Focused on empowering Democratic women leaders, the committee plays a key role in shaping policy priorities and mobilizing grassroots political engagement.

Rachel Green (New Jersey) and Roberta Walters (New Jersey) are the Co-Chairs of this committee. Christine Pelosi (California) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Brenda Pollard (North Carolina), Jewel Dickson (Florida), and Helen Whalen (Pennsylvania).

RESOLUTIONS COMMITTEE*


The Resolutions Committee plays a vital role in shaping the agenda and priorities of the National Federation of Democratic Women. This committee is dedicated to addressing pressing issues that affect women at every level, advocating for policies that promote equality, justice, and empowerment. Through thorough analysis and collaboration, the Resolutions Committee formulates proposals that reflect the values and concerns of our members. These resolutions serve as a guiding framework for action, ensuring that the voices of women are heard and prioritized in the democratic process. It presents resolutions at the convention. The deadline for submission of resolutions is one month prior to the Annual Convention.

Kelly Green (Michigan) is the Chair of this committee. Christine Pelosi (California) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Judy Stahl (Arizona), Denise Murphy McGraw (New York), Jana Lewis Harkins (Oklahoma), Alice Geoghegan (Mississippi), and Pat Siriois (Connecticut).

WOMEN IN BLUE COMMITTEE


The Women in Blue Committee is dedicated to empowering women to engage in advocacy at all levels of government—local, state, and federal. This committee serves as a platform for women to share experiences, and amplify their voices on critical issues affecting their communities. Federations are encouraged to have a Women in Blue (WIB) day in their communities and attend our virtual WIB event to advocate for issues important to women. By fostering collaboration and providing resources, the Women in Blue Committee encourages active participation in the political process, ensuring that women's perspectives and concerns are represented in decision-making.

The Membership Committee plays a vital role in expanding and strengthening our organization. Focused on recruiting new members and engaging current ones, the committee fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment. Through outreach efforts, and other initiatives, the committee ensures that every woman has the opportunity to participate actively and contribute to the Federation’s mission. This dedicated team helps build a diverse, empowered community committed to advancing democratic values.

Celeste Garcia (DC) is the Chair of this committee. Inez James (Ohio) is the Board Advisor. Gina Sims-Johnson (Tennessee) We are still seeking one member from the other Regions to serve on this Committee.

PROTOCOL COMMITTEE


The Protocol Committee is responsible for establishing and maintaining guidelines that ensure order, respect, and professionalism during meetings and events. This committee oversees the proper conduct of business, adherence to parliamentary procedures, and coordination of event formalities to promote effective communication and inclusivity within the organization.

RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE


The Risk Management Committee is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks that could impact our organization. The committee ensures that proper protocols and safeguards are in place to protect the organization’s assets, reputation, and operations. Through ongoing monitoring and strategic planning, the Risk Management Committee supports a secure and resilient environment that enables the Federation to advance its mission effectively.

PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE*


The Public Relations Committee plays a vital role in advancing the mission and visibility of the National Federation of Democratic Women. This dedicated team focuses on cultivating positive relationships with committee chairs, executive board members and federation members. By engaging in open communication, the committee ensures that the voices of Democratic women are heard and represented. Committed to transparency and inclusivity, the Public Relations Committee works collaboratively to highlight the impact of women in leadership and foster a supportive community for all. It consists of one member from each region who help gather accurate information for the website and our quarterly Communicator newsletter.

SOCIAL MEDIA COMMITTEE


The Social Media Committee of the National Federation of Democratic Women plays a crucial role in amplifying our mission through digital platforms. With a focus on engaging content and community building, this committee manages our presence on social media tools including Facebook and Instagram, connecting members and supporters alike. Through strategic posts, interactive campaigns, and informative updates, the committee fosters an inclusive online environment that encourages dialogue and collaboration among women dedicated to advancing Democratic ideals. WEBSITE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE


The Website and Technology Committee is dedicated to enhancing the organization’s digital presence and technological resources. This committee oversees the development, maintenance, and security of the organization’s website, ensuring it remains a reliable platform for communication, information sharing, and member engagement. By leveraging innovative technology solutions, the committee supports the Federation’s goals of accessibility, transparency, and effective outreach to women across the nation.

GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE


The Growth and Development Committee’s goal is to expand the NFDW leadership pipeline by actively recruiting and nurturing emerging leaders from within the NFDW membership. This will include targeted outreach to members with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, fostering a culture of inclusion and continuous learning. Through structured leadership workshops, personalized mentorship, and opportunities for hands-on project management, the program aims to develop the next generation of visionary leaders—equipped not only with technical expertise, but also with the agility, empathy, and strategic thinking required to advance the organization’s mission in an evolving political landscape.

Neena Murphy-Martin (District of Columbia) is the Chair of this committee. Telise Ezell Turner (Tennessee) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Kim Walker (Tennessee), Veronica Thompson-Brumitt (Missouri), Catherine Voutaz (Utah), Edna Borders (Ohio), Gina Sims Johnson (Tennessee) and Susan Rutt (Pennsylvania).

POLITICAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMITTEE


The Political Education and Training Committee’s primary objective is to cultivate an informed, critically engaged NFDW members who possess a deep understanding of civic responsibilities and the workings of government. Demonstrate proficiency with tools that enhance political knowledge. The program will emphasize not only knowledge acquisition but also the development of analytical and ethical reasoning skills, fostering commitment to democratic values, social justice, and active citizenship. It will use a combination of training forums and reading assignments to accomplish the objective.

Deborah Williams (Mississippi) and Barbara Scott (West Virginia) are the Co-Chairs of this committee. Telise Ezell Turner (Tennessee) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Susan Herring (Washington), Karen Johnson (Illinois), Carlotta Harrell (Georgia), Gracie Ziegler (Arkansas), Susan Yochum (Indiana), Sandy Swan (Texas), and Rebecca Touchin (New Mexico).

YOUNG WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE


The Young Women in Leadership Committee will focus on assessing, evaluating, and developing initiatives that broaden educational outreach and member engagement. Emphasizing innovation, the program will incorporate policy analysis and advocacy training to ensure members gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The committee will prioritize transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to change. It will also seek partnerships with community and government organizations to promote civic participation. By encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue and research, the program aims to empower members as leaders and advocates. Success will be measured by increased participation, diversity, and real-world impact in advancing social justice and democratic engagement.

AUDIT COMMITTEE*


The Audit Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the financial practices within our organization. By conducting thorough reviews and assessments, the Audit Committee aims to enhance accountability and foster trust among stakeholders, contributing to the overall effectiveness and sustainability of the organization. This committee audits the books of NFDW Treasurer and the Convention Treasurer each year.

Brook Herman (Mississippi) is the Chair of this committee. Irmgard Pagan (Puerto Rico) is the Board Advisor. The members of this Committee are: Juliette Eskridge (Tennessee), and Virginia Webb (Georgia).

BUDGET COMMITTEE*


The Budget Committee plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and accountability of the National Federation of Democratic Women. They work collaboratively to establish fiscal priorities that align with our mission and strategic goals, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to support various programs and initiatives. Through transparent financial practices, this Committee promotes responsible stewardship of funds, enabling the Federation to operate efficiently and advocate effectively for women’s rights and democratic values. It also submits a report to the Executive Board at the first Board meeting after Convention.

CONVENTION FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE


The Convention Fundraising Committee plays a vital role in supporting the National Federation of Democratic Women by organizing and coordinating fundraising efforts for our annual convention. This dedicated group works to secure the necessary resources to ensure a successful and impactful event that brings together women leaders from across the nation. Through strategic planning, outreach, and community engagement, the committee helps foster a collaborative environment where members can share ideas, build networks, and advance our shared mission. Their commitment enhances the convention experience and strengthens the Federation’s ability to promote democratic values and women’s leadership.

Brenda Davis (Ohio) is the Chair of this committee. Irmgard Pagan (Puerto Rico). The members of this Committee are: Mary Hamm (Texas), and Judy Stahl(State). Shantay Walton (Mississippi) serves an At-Large Member. We are still seeking one member each from the Eastern and Midwestern Regions to serve on this Committee.

FINANCE COMMITTEE*


The Finance Committee plays a crucial role in sustaining the mission of the National Federation of Democratic Women. Responsible shall plan and execute all fundraising with the approval of the Executive Board. To secure funding, the committee works to ensure financial stability while promoting transparency and accountability. Committee members collaborate to assist with organizing fundraising events, and cultivating donor relationships, all aimed at empowering women and advancing democratic values. Through their efforts, they contribute to the growth and impact of the organization, fostering a network dedicated to supporting women in politics and public service.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE


The Nominating Committee plays a crucial role within the National Federation of Democratic Women, tasked with identifying and recommending candidates for the Executive Board. Committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity, the committee ensures that the candidate pool reflects the values and needs of the membership. By fostering a transparent and democratic nomination process, the Nominating Committee empowers members to engage actively in shaping the future leadership of the federation, ultimately strengthening the voice of women in the democratic process. Two members from each region will be elected at the 2026 Annual Convention to serve on this Committee.
