The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) is proud to herald that longtime NFDW member, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA-11), will retire in 2026. Pelosi’s retirement from the U.S. Congress will clear the way for new 11 th Congressional District representation, which includes most of San Francisco, California. From her historic win in 1987, Rep. Pelosi has been a political powerhouse. She was the first woman elected U.S. House Speaker and the first woman to lead a major political party in either Chamber of Congress.
The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) stands firmly with New York Attorney General Letitia James following her indictment by a Virginia grand jury. NFDW President Lovie West praised James for upholding her oath to support the U.S. Constitution, declaring that “we will not allow these attacks on our democratic principles or on women in power to go unchecked.” West urged citizens across the nation to defend justice and equality, reaffirming the shared commitment to “liberty and justice for all.”
The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) calls for the immediate swearing-in of U.S. Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva, who won Arizona’s special election on September 23, 2025. Due to the government shutdown, her oath ceremony has been delayed. NFDW President Lovie West emphasized that women elected to office deserve the same prompt recognition and installation as their male counterparts, urging fair and consistent policies to ensure Rep.-elect Grijalva takes her rightful place in Congress.
