NFDW: Standing on the PRIORITY of Early Voting
Early voting for scheduled elections is not an option in every state. Republican controlled legislative bodies are currently leading efforts to abolish early voting in states that formerly embraced the concept as a hallmark of a democratic society. Contested elections will be at their peak in 2026 while voting rights have been abridged, diluted or erased in the United States.
The National Federation of Democratic Women (NFDW) is particularly concerned that the voice of women will be muted if early voting is not emphasized as a way to participate in our democratic form of government. NFDW President Lovie West stated, “Early voting is not a tool to steal a vote. It is a tool to allow the people of the United States to cast their votes on a day that fits their schedule…their lives. There is nothing illegal or suspicious about a mother voting when her children are in school or a college student casting her vote between classes.”
While NFDW continues to support a robust “Get Out the Vote” campaign, we also stand with the Democratic Party’s long held priority to encourage registered voters to vote early if the option is available in their states.
